Exciting News for Windermere Village: Say Hello to Elysium Windermere
We couldn’t be more excited about the news coming out of Windermere Village. Elysium Windermere — a stunning new 74-bedroom hotel and spa — is set to open early 2027 in the beautifully restored former Windermere Hotel, just across the road from us. It’s a much-needed and genuinely fantastic addition to the village, and we can’t wait to see it open its doors.

The building itself has history worth celebrating. It was originally built by local builders, the Pattinson family — and there’s a lovely story that’s been passed down about the build. As the tale goes, old man Pattinson once drew out the equivalent of £1 million in cash to pay the suppliers and workers on site, and left it overnight hanging in his jacket pocket on a shovel. When he came back the next morning, it was exactly where he’d left it. Whether it’s gospel or gently polished by time, it says something rather nice about the village and the people who built it.
That same building is now being lovingly restored to celebrate its character while giving it a real new lease of life, with a restaurant overseen by Stephane Delourme (formerly head chef to Rick Stein) and a spa featuring an outdoor pool, gym, sauna, steam room and cold plunge. It’s the flagship opening for The Elysium Collection, led by CEO James Houlston, who also transformed The Swan Hotel here in the Lakes — so this is a team with a track record of doing beautiful things to Lake District hotels.
It’s the kind of opening that puts Windermere Village firmly on the map — and we think that’s wonderful for everyone here, us included.
